what happens after my initial consultation

Welcome back to our 'New Patient' series, where we answer all the more frequently asked questions that prospective (and newly signed up) Releaf patients often have.

In today's write-up, we will quickly explore what happens directly after you have your initial consultation with one of our world-class clinical team.

Contents

The post-consultation process explained

During your initial consultation, your prescribing specialist will work with you to develop a personalised care plan tailored to your specific health needs and medical condition/s if you have been found suitable for cannabis-based treatments. This includes reviewing your medical records, engaging in an open dialogue about your current symptoms, and discussing potential treatment options with you.

Once you have both agreed on the best course of action and the cannabis-based treatment options that will be prescribed, there are a few more steps to the triage process that have to be completed before you can start your journey to improved health and well-being.

The MDT review

Before a medical cannabis prescription can be legally confirmed, your case will be reviewed by our multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Our MDT includes the specialist who conducted your initial consultation, and other Releaf clinical team members including other specialist doctors, and the GPs and nurses we also have onboard. The combination of multiple medical experts allows us to guarantee that your treatment plan is being carefully evaluated from a range of medical perspectives, ensuring the best possible outcome for you.

The MDT will discuss your prescription, review your medical records, and make any final adjustments to your treatment plan if necessary.

Prescription confirmation and payment

Once the MDT review is complete, the clinical team will finalise your medical cannabis prescription and forward it to our pharmacy (Xeal dispensary). At this point, you will receive both an email and an SMS notification informing you that your prescription is ready for payment.

To pay for your prescription, log into the Releaf Patient Portal, select the 'Prescriptions' tab (fourth from the top), select the product(s) you’d like to order and click 'Pay'. Once payment has been confirmed, your prescription will be processed by Xeal dispensary and sent for delivery to your chosen delivery location.

Prescription delivery

Releaf has partnered with Royal Mail Special Delivery for all medical cannabis prescription deliveries.

As soon as Royal Mail has taken custody of your prescription for delivery, you will receive an SMS and email with a Royal Mail tracking number. You can use this number to track the progress of your package from this website and know when it will arrive at your doorstep.

Please remember that you will have to sign for your prescription upon delivery.

Follow-up consultations

You will also need to book a time for your first follow-up consultation, which should always be booked within 3 weeks of your initial consultation. This will help progress your treatment plan and ensure you are on the right track to improved health.

You can book your follow-up consultation in your Releaf Patient Portal. Sign in, select the 'Appointments' tab (sixth from the top), and choose a date and time that suits you. You can also change or cancel your appointment through the portal if needed.

The wrap-up

And that's it!

You have now completed your initial consultation and moved onto the next stage of your Releaf journey.

How often should I see my doctor?

Medical cannabis treatment is quite an individual process, which means there is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how often you should see your doctor. Each and every patient we see here at Releaf responds at least slightly differently to their treatment protocol. This is the main reason our world-class clinical team takes such a personalised approach to each patient's care and why it is essential that all patients see their doctor regularly.
