Titration

Titration is very common in medical cannabis prescriptions in the UK. It is the process of gradually adjusting the dosage of medical cannabis to find the optimal amount for symptom relief without unwanted side effects. This is done by starting with a low dose and slowly increasing it until the desired therapeutic effect is reached. Your Releaf prescribing specialist may suggest titrating your medical cannabis dosage to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Why is titration important in medical cannabis?

Every patient reacts differently to medical cannabis. Gradually increasing the dose allows your prescribing specialist to find the lowest effective dose, minimising the potential for side effects while also ensuring symptom relief. This is especially important for patients who are new to medical cannabis or have a lower tolerance to cannabinoid therapy.

How long does the titration process take?

That depends on a range of factors, including the type of medical cannabis being prescribed, the patient's individual response to treatment, and their condition. Medical cannabis titration usually takes place over 2 to 4 weeks, but it can vary. Your prescribing specialist will closely monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed.

How do I know when I've reached the right dose?

You've reached the right dose when your symptoms are well-managed with minimal side effects. Everyone reacts to THC and CBD (and other cannabinoids) differently, so what works for one patient may not work for another.
