We announced our partnership with SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals back in October 2024, marking the UK’s biggest medical cannabis deal and cementing our place as a leading medical cannabis clinic. Through this partnership, our aim was to champion SOMAÍ’s expertise in developing innovative medical cannabis formulations and provide our patients with a more diverse product range to choose from.

Inside SOMAÍ’s Manufacturing Facility

Earlier this year, we were given the opportunity to go inside SOMAÍ’s manufacturing facility outside Lisbon, Portugal. During his visit, Releaf’s Operations Associate, Jacob Allen, got to see where different SOMAÍ medical cannabis products, from oils and vape cartridges to soft-gel capsules and chewable pastilles, are made. But perhaps the most exciting part of the tour was being given an insight into the development of some of SOMAÍ’s new products, such as their ‘fast-acting’ range.

Since introducing the THC4000 Hybrid Essentials vape cartridges to our medical cannabis formulary, we’re happy to have received some great feedback from patients.

We worked with SOMAÍ to provide an alternative to medical cannabis flower and sublingual oils after listening to patient feedback. The fact is, while cannabis flower, administered with a dry herb vaporiser, offers many benefits, such as speedy onset, it might not be for everyone. Whether that’s due to struggling with the dosing caps or the need to carry prescription pots on the go, we wanted to provide a solution. 

Each cartridge is filled with 0.5ml of purified medical cannabis vape oil, containing 400mg of THC. Each administration provides a dose of 80% THC alongside minor cannabinoids such as CBG, CBC, and CBN.

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits:

Easy administration

The THC4000 Hybrid Essentials vape cartridges require no pre-preparation. They are compatible with Releaf batteries and can simply be screwed in and used immediately. This makes them a great option for patients in need of fast-acting relief or for patients with dexterity limitations who may struggle to fill flower sticks for vaporising.

Fast-acting results

This ease of administration and fast-acting results has been noted by a number of patients who have tried the new SOMAÍ vape cartridges, including Kelly, who uses the medical cannabis vape pen, as well as medical cannabis oil and medical cannabis flower, when she is in need of speedy results:

“I never know when [my symptoms are] going to strike. But I have to live the same way every day. So the pen is useful for that instant "as and when", you know? Like when you would take paracetamol or ibuprofen or something, but obviously this is much quicker and more natural.

Unfortunately, while medical cannabis is completely legal when prescribed by a specialist clinician, there remains significant stigma and a lack of awareness around this category of medicine. Therefore, discretion is often an important consideration for medical cannabis patients.

Adding to a tailored medical cannabis treatment

The introduction of the SOMAÍ THC4000 Hybrid Essentials vape cartridges offers our patients another option to help patients tailor their medical cannabis treatment to their needs. However, it is important to note that this product may not be suitable for all. The high THC concentration (80%) and fast-acting onset time of the products means additional precautions may be needed. 

Typically, we recommend these cartridges for patients aged 25 and over, who have already been prescribed medical cannabis flower with a THC concentration of 20% or above. However, we encourage patients to discuss all product options with their clinician.
