GC: Gas Chromatography

Gas Chromatography (GC) is a widely used analytical tool for cannabis testing. The technique enables potency testing, terpene profiling, and pesticide screening in cannabis products.

GC works by separating the different compounds produced by Cannabis sativa L. plants and identifying their chemical structures. This process is known as chromatography, and it is used to determine the potency, purity, and quality of cannabis, along with any potential contaminants.

Are all UK medical cannabis products tested using gas chromatography?

No, gas chromatography is not used on all UK medical cannabis products. Medical cannabis products that are intended for oral or sublingual administration are typically tested using a different method called high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Where can I find the results from gas chromatography for cannabis-based medicines in the UK?

The results from gas chromatography testing can usually be found on the product label or packaging, along with other analytical tests performed on the product.

All medical cannabis products in the UK must come with a COA (Certificate of Analysis), which is a document that provides information about the product's potency and purity. This COA should include gas chromatography results, among others.
